St Patrick’s Day Standup flyerThis coming Monday, St. Patrick’s Day, I will be performing in the first-ever ComedySportz Standup Comedy Show. Our guest star is none other than the very talented Maria Bamford.

So I thought this would be a good opportunity to plug her (stop thinking dirty) so that you know of the awesome talent that she is.

She’s been on Comedy Central Presents, The Tonight Show, Conan, etc. She also has done a lot of cartoon voiceovers, and when you see her act, you’ll know why.

And I’ve crossed her paths a couple of times, so I can also tell you she is an incredibly sweet person.

She has a lot of goodies online, including standup samples and her very own show on SuperDeluxe.

Here’s some links to her stuff, as well as an entry I wrote in my old MySpace blog a while back about her. And come out and see the show on St. Patrick’s Day!

I recently posted my standup material about McDonald’s and their incessant need to act more “gangsta” to sell Big Macs to urban youth. Thanks for the positive feedback so far. I saw a request for the lyrics to the rap, so here it is:

When I was in Austin, I was part of a documentary short called “art/work” directed by Avram Dodson. It showcased four artists - a burlesque dancer, an author, a musician, and yours truly, a stand-up comedian - who have to balance their passion of their art with their day jobs for income. The short was a South by Southwest Jury Prize Winner and has recently been added to a Journey of Short Film DVD compilation.

I found the short on YouTube and thought you’d like to watch it. You can also see the short on Avram’s imeem page. And yes, the short does show off my fabulous Smurf collection.

Here’s a pic from a special stand-up comedy performance I did for the CD release party for Unwrapped. It’s a holiday CD by Rogue, a totally awesome group of soulful sisters who can SANG! If you haven’t listened to them yet, you’re way behind in the world of good music (Seriously, they don’t have a single song about an umbrella or lip gloss).

Rogue and Andre Meadows

People, get this album. You can easily listen to it past the holidays, its message and melodies last all year long. Thanks a lot for the stage time, ladies. Keep doing your thing and maybe next time, I’ll see you performing at the GRAMMYs (unless that awards show gets canceled by the writer’s strike, too). I love you, Melinda, Krystle, and (fellow black nerd) Erika.
