This week, I happened to stumble across two items related to the illegitimate step-child of the sequel: the prequel.

That’s of course when a second movie is made, but the events of the second movie take place before the events of the first movie so that the second movie gives you a backstory to all of the events that happened in the first movie before moving on to the third movie which will then take place after the first movie, which now takes place after the second movie.

I’ve just gone cross-eyed.

First, I found out that Disney is releasing The Little Mermaid 3: Ariel’s Beginning. Then I read on ToonZone.net that Cartoon Network is planning to make a live-action prequel to the Scooby-Doo movies.

Which leads me to a question… has there been any successful prequel movie?

And Batman Begins doesn’t count.

John Cho calls out Audience Person who says his Asian Friend looks like himAll good things must come to an end. Like Comic-Con 2008 and my Comic-Con 2008 recap.

Hope you enjoyed the ride. And be sure to read all of it. There will be a quiz. Seriously. There will be.

SUNDAY

That’s it! I’m going to see a panel that I want to see today if it kills me!

So I’m going into Ballroom 20 as soon as the Comic-Con doors open, and I’m staying there until the Harold and Kumar Panel happens!

Luckily, it worked. Take that, crowds!

Comic-Con 2008

This is my recap of my 4 days at Comic-Con 2008… or at least as much as I can remember. It was a long week, and I spent a lot of it in a Scooby-Doo costume, so I’m a little light-headed.

I’ll tell you right now. I’m writing based on my own personal Comic-Con adventures. So if you’re looking for secret Hugh Jackman appearances, love or hate debates over Twilight, or first-look videos that will eventually be deleted from YouTube, you’re in the wrong place. Let’s do this!

Super Mario Bros. Movie It’s the most misunderstood movie of its time, and now it’s cheap.

While rifling through the Best Buy weekly ad, I found an online sale of several Disney-but-not-Disney movies (a.k.a. “Touchstone” or “Hollywood” movies) for $5.00.

And sure enough, the movie that stars a Brit and an Hispanic as two Italian video game plumbers is in the mix.

The only catch is you have to buy a second film to make the deal active (2 for $10).

While I want to recommend Dick Tracy as the best of the bunch, I can’t help but try to persuade you to either get The 6th Man or My Boyfriend’s Back or any of the movies that have Ernest in the title.

Here’s a link to the awesome Super Mario Bros. deal

SmurfSo there’s been some changes to the upcoming Smurfs movie which will happen… sometime in the future. First off, it’s now going to be released through Sony/Columbia Pictures, who bought the rights from Paramount/Nickelodeon.

Second, the all-CGI feature idea has been scrapped for a live-action/CGI hybrid similar to the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie (I swear to God, if you put a Smurf with Snoop Dogg, heads will roll…)

Here’s an article with all the details. So I guess now the big question is, if the humans in the Smurfs movie will be live-action, who will play Gargamel?

Man, it’s taking forever to make this movie! Looks like Smurfs: The Movie has a nice cushy seat in Development Hell. Say hi to Wonder Woman: The Movie while you’re down there, will ya?

Superhero MovieI read a very interesting article recently regarding the boycott of Superhero Movie, released by the Weinstein Company, due to the company’s unfair treatment of the yet-unreleased Star Wars fan film Fanboys.

In Fanboys, one of the characters (who take a road trip to Skywalker Ranch before the release of The Phantom Menace) has cancer, and the powers that be wanted to make a version of the film without mentioning it.

This upset one of the producers of the film, it upset Star Wars fans who saw a rough cut of the film, and the boycotting began. You can read all about it at The Hollywood Reporter.

I find this article interesting for two reasons.

Writer’s Strike

So the Writers Guild of America’s strike has officially ended, a deal has been made, and the writers can get back to work on Norbit 2 and a remake of Space Camp.

I’m just kidding, I’m glad the writers are back to work. I need my TV back, people. When Heroes gets replaced by American Gladiators and FOX’s biggest new show involves lie detectors, you know there’s trouble.

I’m also happy because I need new entertainment news as well. I’m tired of Britney, Amy, and Heather Mills. I want real entertainment news like the next Johnny Depp flick or what new cartoon-based movie starring Jason Lee and/or Brendan Fraser is coming out, not that Gary Coleman was secretly married and Miley Cyrus doesn’t wear seatbelts.

So writers, I’m glad you’re back. And you got more money. So you better earn it. If I see one more movie trailer come out that starts with “From the people who brought you Scary Movie,” then I’ll start striking my damn self!

The thing that’s funny about Hollywood is that you can meet someone who’s a wonderful and strong working actor and not even know it. That’s what happened to me tonight.

I was performing at ComedySportz in Hollywood. It’s a show where two teams play improv games to compete for laughs and points. It’s a totally cool show and you should see it, it’s for all ages. Okay, plug over, back to the story.

One of the games was a guessing game that required me to leave the room. To prove we’re not cheating (cause no one believes in magic anymore), we take an audience member with us.

A young lady volunteered to go out of the room and we stand outside to make small talk.

She introduces herself. Her name is Vanessa.

Smurfs 50th Anniversary

Congratulations to my favorite cartoon and collectibles, the Smurfs! This year, they will be celebrating their 50th anniversary of being in this world! And what a celebration it will be. There are plans for a new CGI animated movie, a possible series afterwards, the release of the original cartoons on DVD, new comics and collectibles, and get this… possibly even new female Smurfs! Could Smurfette finally have some competition?
