Xbox360 ArcadeThis week, it seems the thing to do is try to beat Nintendo at its own game.

No pun intended.

First, there’s the story that Xbox360 is lowering the price of its “Arcade” version to $199, a whole 50 bucks below the Nintendo Wii.

That’s great! Now you can afford to see all those games in high-definition and store all your game data on its big-@$$ hard drive.

Oh wait, the “Arcade” version doesn’t have HD or a big-@$$ hard drive…

…Awkward.

Super Mario Bros. Movie It’s the most misunderstood movie of its time, and now it’s cheap.

While rifling through the Best Buy weekly ad, I found an online sale of several Disney-but-not-Disney movies (a.k.a. “Touchstone” or “Hollywood” movies) for $5.00.

And sure enough, the movie that stars a Brit and an Hispanic as two Italian video game plumbers is in the mix.

The only catch is you have to buy a second film to make the deal active (2 for $10).

While I want to recommend Dick Tracy as the best of the bunch, I can’t help but try to persuade you to either get The 6th Man or My Boyfriend’s Back or any of the movies that have Ernest in the title.

Here’s a link to the awesome Super Mario Bros. deal

8-Bit NintendoI’m in the middle of Spring Cleaning and I have to do the unthinkable. I have to say good-bye to my old 8-Bit NES.

I don’t want to. But I have no choice. I’m running out of room. The Smurfs are taking over. And it just doesn’t work anymore.

I hate to see it go. But it’s time. Thanks for the memories, 8-Bit Nintendo. We’ve had a lot of fun. We’ve played all kinds of games from Mario Bros. to Rescue Rangers. But we won’t talk about the M.C. Kids incident.

And now, rest well in Video Game Heaven. Say hi to the Dreamcast for me, will you?

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Nintendo. I love you. You know I do. I always have.

But you’re testing my love, Nintendo. You told me I’d have Smash Bros. Brawl by Christmas. I was a little disappointed that you lied to me, but you gave me Super Mario Galaxy in the meantime, and that was a nice gesture.

And then, you promised me… you promised me… you’d be here on February 10. I gave GameStop 5 dollars to reserve you and waited patiently, highly anticipating the date when the two of us would finally be together.

And now I hear you’re not coming out to play until March. Well, now you’re just being a joystick tease.

PS3Since I’ve obviously have been so Wii-happy, I have not thought twice about getting a Playstation 3, and in doing so, had created an unnecessary sort of disdain for the system.

I complained it had lack of titles. I complained all the different re-releases of the system were confusing. I complained that it’s a sting operation to make you like Blu-Ray over HD-DVD.

And then, a Christmas miracle occurred. I got one as a gift.

And you know, there’s something about getting a video game system for free that completely changes your thoughts towards it.

This classic video game commercial has been floating around on YouTube, and believe me when I say… THIS… IS… AWESOME! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always liked Pole Position, but it’s never been at the top of my video game list. But after watching this commercial, I may have to change my gaming priorities. Someone get me an Atari 2600 quick!

Nintendo DSIf you’ve seen my first vlog, “I’m a Black Nerd,” you know that at some point in my life, I’ve owned all the Nintendo systems… NES 8-bit, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Game Boy (Green-Screen, Color & Advance), GameCube, Wii.

I’ve owned every Nintendo system except one… not counting Virtual Boy because only 14 people owned that, I think.

And now my collection is complete. My roommate went to a taping of Deal or No Deal, and was surprised to find out it was a Christmas-themed show and they were giving away prizes.

Unfortunately, you have to pay taxes on everything you get, so she declined a lot of stuff (what is a black woman going to do with a Howie Mandel bobblehead, anyway?)

She called me up to tell me what she kept… a Roomba vacuum and such… then she said, “Oh, and I got this thing, I don’t know if you’d be interested in it. It’s a DS something…”

I pig-squealed. She had a Nintendo DS, and had no idea of the awesomeness she had!

She was planning to sell it on eBay, but after some intense negotiating and bartering, she got one of my old laptops (remember kids, a nerd always has a spare computer around), and I have the end of my Nintendo collection.

Oh wait, I guess I still have to get a Game Boy Micro, huh? But why?
