Smurfs Movie Cast

There’s a lot of Smurfs now in Smurf Village 2011. And not a black nerd in the bunch. Unless you count Kenan Thompson.

More voices were announced for the upcoming The Smurfs Movie, of which you all know I’m trying to be a part of. First, it was announced that Paul Reubens @PeeWeeHerman will be the voice of Jokey Smurf (perfection). Then Entertainment Weekly unleashed a tidal wave of voice announcements.

Anton Yelchin (2009 Star Trek) as Clumsy, B.J. Novak of The Office (@IAmRyanHoward) as Baker, Wolgang Puck (@WolfgangBuzz) as Chef Smurf (Wait, why is there a Baker Smurf AND a Chef Smurf?), Jeff Foxworthy as Handy Smurf, John Oliver (The Daily Show) as Vanity Smurf (Curses! I forgot to do that voice in the video!) and Gary Basarbara (huh?) as Hefty Smurf.

And the koopa-de-grace: Kenan Thompson of SNL, Fat Albert and All That fame will be voicing a Smurf. Greedy Smurf. This makes me nervous. I always picture Kenan as my doppelganger. Can there be TWO black people voicing Smurfs?

While there’s still the fight of filming me doing something in live-action, the voices of Smurfs are getting thin. I mean, which popular Smurfs are left at this point? Lazy? Farmer? Harmony? Painter? Clockwork? Do you even remember Clockwork Smurf?

Let’s keep it up, people. Keep signing the petition, joining the Facebook group, wearing the Twibbons, and sharing the YouTube video. We can’t let this dream die! Black Nerd must be in The Smurfs Movie! To Smurf Village and Beyond!!!
