It’s time to induct a cartoon character into the ANNOYING CARTOON SIDEKICK HALL OF FAME, a place where bad cartoon characters go to die. Today’s inductee: Webigail Vanderquack (also known as “Webby”) from DuckTales.

Every time I see Webby on this classic cartoon, all we think of is some Disney Afternoon executive going, “Give Huey, Dewey & Louie a sister.”

And then the show creator going, “Uh, they’ve never had a sister the entire time people have known them.”

And then that executive saying, “Well, make up some cockamamie story about her being the granddaughter of the housekeeper, so he hangs around a lot. That’s it. I like it. Money money money money money.”

And sure enough, that was Webby’s reason of being on DuckTales (More like SUCKTales! Am I right? Hi-5!) She was the granddaughter of  Mrs. Beakley and therefore always wanted to be a part of Huey, Dewey & Louie’s adventures. And that was really her point of being on DuckTales.

That, and because the show needed girls.

TALKBACK: What are your thoughts on Webby from DuckTales? And who do you think should be inducted into the Annoying Cartoon Sidekick Hall of Fame next?

They could’ve used Daisy Duck, but I guess she’s too old. Or her nieces April, May and June Duck, but this is probably your first time you’ve ever heard of them. You see, a lot of old school cartoons didn’t make enough complex female characters in their sexist past, so they just always threw in female counterparts to their established male characters (We’re surprised there isn’t a “Goofette” or “Plutonia” running around).

And that’s what Webby was. One of Donald’s nephews in a dress. Complete with annoying “cutesy child” talk, annoying whining, and even a smaller version of herself in doll form to carry around. Lame. All she did was cause trouble or get kidnapped. And she’s partly responsible for keeping the wretched BUBBA DUCK on the show.

Don’t worry, Bubba. Your induction is coming soon. Real soon.

Congrats, Webby, for being a completely unnecessary character in the Duckburg universe. May you forever be a part of the ANNOYING CARTOON SIDEKICK HALL OF FAME! DuckTales! WOO-HOO!
